History of the journal: from Institute of International Studies Yearbook to the Journal of International Analytics
The Journal of International Analytics published by the Institute for International Studies of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) has a rich history. Since its inception in 2010, the journal has been mostly a “departmental” publication, a platform for publishing the results of the applied research carried out by the Institute’s employees in the interests of the federal executive bodies of the Russian Federation that are responsible for foreign policy and national security.
From 2010 to 2016, the journal was called the Institute for International Studies Yearbook. The Yearbook found its readers and regular authors, but it was soon realized that the dynamics of international relations and their grasp by researchers require a more rapid reflection and, accordingly, the transformation of the publication into a journal project. It has been published quarterly since 2013 and includes articles by scholars who have no formal relation to MGIMO. The periodical was renamed the Journal of International Analytics in 2016.
The journal underwent a complete overhaul in 2020. It is now a full-fledged academic journal with an editorial board made up of respected international experts and contributors from universities and institutions worldwide. Articles that appear in the journal are double-blind peer-reviewed by leading Russian and foreign experts.
